Pequot Girls Move to 7-1

Sisters Emily and Mattie Lueck combined for 31 points to lead the 7-1 Patriots over Deer River 72-47 on Tuesday night in Pequot Lakes.

The win gives Pequot Lakes a 3-0 Mid-State Conference record, tied with Crosby-Ironton atop the standings.

Emily Lueck finished with 16 points to go along with five steals and seven assists while Mattie scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had five steals. Kylie Beltz added 11 points for Pequot.

Patriot coach Jon Dale said, “We started off slow and missed some easy shots. Once we got rolling and the press started working, the tempo got faster and we played better.”

“We gave them some trouble with the press and put a lot of pressure on them in the backcourt,” added Dale. “Emily and Mattie both played well, they basically took over the game - it was nice to see them play well together.”

Kari DeYoung totaled 16 points for the Warriors.

The Patriots are taking part in the Crookston tournament Dec. 28-29 against teams from Crookston, Hawley, and East Grand Forks.
