Web posted September 2, 2014
Local songwriter, singer and guitarist, Shannon Murray, will perform at the Pequot Lakes Library on Friday, September 5 at 10 a.m. Her show, “People's Music: Songs of the Industrial Workers of the World” will feature some of her original music, as well as music of the early 1900’s.
Shannon will share her research on IWW, some general history of the time, and how music was used by the IWW as an organizing tool within the labor movement. She will perform cover songs from that era, along with songs she has written inspired by the labor movement. Shannon will relate this national movement to her personal history with Eugene Debs and his visit to Bemidji, local IWW organizing, and the riots. This event is appropriate for all ages.
This free Legacy Program is funded in part or in whole with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008 which dedicated funding to preserve Minnesota’s arts and cultural heritage.
