Revolution Dance Team

Web posted January 24, 2012
Tuesday, January 10 kicked off a very busy week for the Revolution dance team as they headed to Sauk Rapids to compete in an evening meet. The varsity finished the night with fourth place finishes in both high kick and jazz. Sartell, St. Cloud Cathedral, and Sauk Rapids were the top three teams in kick, with Alexandria, St. Cloud Apollo, and Rocori placing fifth through seventh. In jazz, Cathedral, Sartell, and Sauk Rapids were again the top teams, with Rocori, Apollo, and Alexandria rounding out the results.

The JV Revolution (pictured below) also had a successful night, with two 2nd place  finishes. In high kick, they finished behind St. Cloud Cathedral, and in front of Alexandria. In the jazz division, they placed behind Sauk Rapids, and ahead of  Alexandria.

Next for the Revolution was a Northern Lights’ Jazz Conference Meet, which they hosted on Thursday, January 12. Both the varsity and JV team handed in strong performances that earned them second place honors. The varsity team was edged out by the team from Aitkin, while Crosby, Pierz, and Pine River finished in 3rd through 5th places. The JV category was won by the Aitkin Black team, while Pierz finished 3rd, Crosby came in 4th, and Aitkin Red placed 5th.

The Revolution ended their week with a trip to Cold Spring for the Rocori Invitational on Saturday, January 14. The varsity again handed in two strong performances, which was enough to earn them second place finishes in both high kick and jazz. Rocori won high kick, with Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Pierz, Monticello, Melrose, and Bemidji all placing behind the Revolution. The varsity jazz team was tied for first place but, after a tie-breaker was performed was edged out by a tough team from Detroit Lakes. The third through eighth place teams in jazz were Rocori, Monticello, Bemidji, Pierz, Melrose, and Alexandria.

The JV Revolution did very well at Rocori; earning 1st place finishes in both high kick and jazz. The other JV kick finishers were Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Pierz, Monticello, Melrose, and New London-Spicer. The jazz category saw Detroit Lakes finishing second, Bemidji in third, Monticello in fourth, Pierz in fifth, Alexandria in sixth, and Rocori in seventh.

“It was an intense week of competition,” said varsity coach Amber Peterson. “We were satisfied with all of the performances this week, and now we’re looking forward to having three weeks of practice to prepare for Sections.”

JV coach Rachael Armstrong was also pleased with how her girls did this week. “The girls taking first place in both at Rocori was just the cherry on top of a wonderful week.”
