Revolution Open 2009-10 Season

The Pequot Lakes Revolution Dance Team kicked off the 2009 dance season on Thursday, Dec. 3rd with a High Kick conference meet in Aitkin. The varsity squad, under coaches Amber Peterson and Rachel Armstrong, took third place with their routine, behind strong Aitkin and Crosby-Ironton teams, who finished in first and second place respectively. Pierz and Pine River-Backus rounded out the results in fourth and fifth places.

Coach Peterson said, “It was a tough start to the season for the varsity team; Thursday’s Conference Meet was our first performance, and our nerves definitely got the best of us. Unfortunately we had a lot of mistakes and poor technique, resulting in our third place finish. It was disappointing, but we learned from our mistakes and worked hard on Friday in preparation for another big day on Saturday.”

The junior varsity team finished the night in second place, behind Aitkin. Coach Kristin McSherry-Neale was pleased with her girls’ performance. “To finish three points out of the lead in our first meet is great; we still have some polishing to do, so we’re looking forward to coming out even stronger next time.”

Saturday, December 5th brought about the Brainerd Invitational and the Revolution’s first chance to compete as a Class AA team. The varsity faced stiff competition in the AA Kick category, and placed fifth behind St. Cloud Cathedral, Totino-Grace, Chanhassen, and Duluth Central.

Coach Peterson thought that the competition order might have helped her team perform better. “Having all day to focus and prepare allowed the team to execute a much stronger performance. It was a step in the right direction, but we still have a lot of room for improvement in order to be competitive this season in AA. There is no doubt in my mind that we are up for the challenge.”

The junior varsity Revolution team came away from Saturday’s competition with a third place finish, behind Totino-Grace and St. Cloud Cathedral. “The girls showed a marked improvement over their performance on Thursday, so we’re very happy with how we did,” stated McSherry-Neale.

The Revolution’s took part in the Eastview Invite on Saturday, December 12. See next week’s edition for complete coverage.
