Youth Snowmobile Safety in Pequot Lakes

The Pequot Brush Pilots and the Ideal Sno Pros Snowmobile clubs just finished their annual Snowmobile Safety Course this past week. The course, which was held at Pequot Lakes High School, ran from Nov 30-Dec 5. There were 44 participants with 41 that took the driving test and received their certificate.

Guest speakers included MN DNR Conservation Officer Chad Sherack who spoke on the laws and regulations for Snowmobiling in Minnesota, and Cody Thomsen from Nisswa spoke on operator safety and general rules of safe riding.

Thomsen also highlighted the special gear needed to racing snowmobiles and brought in a race sled to show the kids. He will be racing for the Arctic Cat Factory team this winter in ISOC sanctioned event throughout the snowbelt of the U.S. Thomsen is the son of Wayne and Peggy Thomsen of Nisswa.

Safety instructors this year were Dave Guenther, Ken Stoltman, Barb Blixt, along with assistance from former snowmobile students Kendal Swenson and Evan Hayes, along with many other members of both the Ideal Sno Pros and the Pequot Brush Pilots.
