Two Arrested in Connection with Area Thefts

Cass County Authorities report a man and woman were arrested on August 10, 2009, near Walker, in connection with thefts of sporting equipment and tools from the Walker, Cass Lake, and neighboring areas.

Chief Deputy Tom Burch reports the arrests were a result of an ongoing investigation, into the thefts and pawning of equipment, being conducted by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Burch identified the two arrested persons as Wesley Lauinger, age 20, of Frazee, MN, and Alisa Peterson, age 19, of Detroit Lakes, MN. Both have been criminally charged with one count each of third degree burglary, receiving stolen property, and liability for crimes of another.

Both remain in custody in the Cass County Jail with bail having been set at $50,000 unconditional or $40,000 conditional. Lauinger is also being held pursuant to an active warrant from another county.

The two were arrested when the vehicle they were traveling in was observed by Cass County Deputy Bryan Welk and stopped just South of Walker on Highway 371. Burch reports property stolen from the Walker area was in the vehicle at the time of the arrests and property stolen from the Cass Lake area has been recovered from a number of pawn shops.
